Ideas & Execution

Ideas come daily. My execution was lacking.  I’ve made the decision to do more. 

So, May will be execution month. I will get my ideas started. 

Today’s idea: LinkedIn & Facebook Group for Hudson Valley Business Executives. I think there should be a place to go for business owners to learn from each other. And from this idea a group was born. Officially it is called HV Business Executive Network. Check it out here: Facebook & LinkedIn

The group is brand new and needs a lot of work. But the idea is in the world now. Let’s grow this thing together.

Luke Lives on 5K

My first 5K run ever. An amazing time and a great cause to support. Very happy I signed up and did it. 

Here are some highlights. 

Oh, I forgot, came in last in my division. But that means the only place to go is up 😉.

I Didn’t Forget

I know. I said, “…posting on here daily.” My bad. It’s a lot harder than I expected. 

Building a brand takes work. 

 I’m focused on video for the next 12 weeks. My skills are lacking. But time and effort will fix that. 

The overall goal: to tell great stories. 

Since I was young, I love stories. They enchant me. I’ve never been the best communicator. Ask my wife! 

That is going to change. I’m learning everything I can. Taking frameworks and building out themes. Hammering away and getting  better at sharing.

I can see the big picture – hint, everything matters.

So, bear with me. I’ll do better.

Coach not player

Low standards: manifested as “good enough”

One of my biggest issues. And it’s not directed at me. It’s at my people. I hold myself to impeccable standards. But let my people off the hook.
Two issues I see.

First I let them stumble because I downgrade their capabilities until proven wrong.

Second it’s my tendency to help. Both stem from the same place.

And it all leads to a lower functioning team.

The fix: empowerment and failure.

Give them room to grow or fail. All I can do is coach, not do.
