New Projects

Starting a new project is fun.

The excitement comes from being the architect.

At the beginning, I’m an architect. Anything I want is available. Opportunity abounds.

Once that thrashing is done I lose interest. Following through is going down a path that I have already seen. It’s boring. I delegate the boring. Delegate through scale by hiring and outsourcing.

I do the hard part. Thinking. Dreaming. Thrashing. I know myself well enough to know and do what I enjoy.

And it is amazing. There is no win-lose in this situation. There is only the art form. Intention. And all the creativity you can muster.

Are you passionate about what you are doing?

If not, you are doing it wrong.

Me? I love to consume stories. My mind craves a solid storyline. The medium doesn’t matter. Even language is not a barrier to a good, solid story.

And, my love of story has led me down my path.

#Business: Decision Cycle

When I know the right answer I cannot move off of it.

It’s that knowing part that gets me.

The truth is undefeated and I want it in my corner.

But the questions start.

What is the priority?

What will the impact be?

I could answer. But my mind has already filed the issue.

I made a snap decision by thinking about it once.

Important? No. Urgent? No. – Ok.

Now, let it sit. If it dies, then I let it lay; But if it comes back twice, time to think some more.

Think about that. My decision cycle is a minimum of three rotations. Good or bad, it is what it is.

What is your decision cycle?

#Business: Better at Many Projects

I listened to the podcast episode for the 14th time. Before I couldn’t say exactly how I felt. But then I knew.

This is my business. I can build it anyway I want.

I want to be able to work on any task that I want.

There are many tasks that have to get done. Just not by me.

Pick tasks I like. Do them.

Pick tasks I hate. Delegate them.

Make sure everything gets done. I am the boss after all.

No excuses. Just find a way forward.

Good news for everyone involved. Before the projects were overwhelming.

But with this mindset.
