New Projects

Starting a new project is fun.

The excitement comes from being the architect.

At the beginning, I’m an architect. Anything I want is available. Opportunity abounds.

Once that thrashing is done I lose interest. Following through is going down a path that I have already seen. It’s boring. I delegate the boring. Delegate through scale by hiring and outsourcing.

I do the hard part. Thinking. Dreaming. Thrashing. I know myself well enough to know and do what I enjoy.

And it is amazing. There is no win-lose in this situation. There is only the art form. Intention. And all the creativity you can muster.

Are you passionate about what you are doing?

If not, you are doing it wrong.

Me? I love to consume stories. My mind craves a solid storyline. The medium doesn’t matter. Even language is not a barrier to a good, solid story.

And, my love of story has led me down my path.

For the weekend

Been hustlin’ all week. And it keeps going this weekend.

What I’m Reading –

Just picked up “Steal Like An Artist” by Austin Kleon. Love it so far. My favorite line, “Steal the thinking behind the style”.

What I’m Listening To –

Went back to some rap. “Believe Me” by Lil Wayne (Ft. Drake). Needed a change up from the classical electronics, country, and smooth R&B.

What I’m Watching –

Just got into Luther on Netflix. Trying not to spend too much time watching.

Podcast Addition –

Heavyweight by Jonathan Goldstein & Gimlet Media. The title does justice to the content. The first episode gave me feelings.

Thanks for reading!

#FounderJournal: Consistency Hurts

But only in the beginning.

Once you’ve built that muscle up, what you could barely do before will be your warm-up.

That’s how I feel about learning and executing. There is a ton to learn.

Skill is built daily in the trenches.

Take heart in the beginner’s mind. Allows you to always grow and adapt.

The process takes you to the prize.

#FounderJournal: Little Fear

You know what gets me.

That little fear in the back of my head.

Saying don’t stick out, you’ll be safer with the group.

It’s that S.O.B. that I have to fight day in & day out.

And then, something good happens and that fear tranforms.

Now, it says they are going to laugh at you.

All the while I keep going.

[Tweet “I can’t run from my fear. But I damn sure can run it over.”]

I’m doing the work.

No time, on my calendar for fear.

Lost and Found

I was lost. But now I have found my way.

How did I do it?

I admitted that I fucked up. And I forgave myself. Then I listened over and over to motivational tapes. You know the ones. They say its ok to fail as long as you move forward. Mistakes are your friend. I’m not sold on that one. Mistakes are learning experiences.

After a few of those tapes I found some mentors online. And I just started taking action. And adjusting. Over and over and over.

You want to do the same things? Here’s a quick action list.

Action Items:

1. Absorb everything from these guys

1. Gary Vaynerchuck

2. Seth Godin

3. Les Brown

2. Make a rough plan

3. Act!

4. Adjust!

5. Repeat 3 & 4 until goal achieved

6. Set new goal
