Lost time created new ideas

Hours lost fixing problems that shouldn’t happen.

That’s what happened today. It wasn’t any changes I made. My hosting provider made changes, updates without letting me know. And, my clients suffered. I chose at that point, no more, to make a change.

It’s time, I figured out a new way, a better way.

So: I worked on a new plan. It’s ambitious. And, it scares the hell out of me. Perfect. It’s exactly what I want and I’m ready for something new. I may need to break everything I know. But, it’s for the better.

Changes only happen by making them.

Above Average at Boredom

I skimmed through some coding websites. Reviewed a bit of the language docs. Not looking for anything specific. I was trying to get a feel for what was possible. That’s how I spent a few hours tonight. Time used in this manner is vital. I searched for a spark, a passion in the mundane to hook me. Something, anything. It felt useless and important and not urgent. I was on the right path. Or, so I thought.

I read a quote that resonated with me.

The only way to become excellent is to be endlessly fascinacted by doing the same thing over and over. You have to fall in love with boredom.

I got that. My core understood it before my brain processed the words. Because boredom is what builds good habits. And, being comfortable with it – that matters.

Learning for Fun and Profit

I’m interested in learning the Rust programming language. For fun and profit. Fun: learning a new language and getting a computer to do as I ask is my definition of a good time. Profit: once I’ve learned the basics I can offer my skills to learn more. My time is valuable and I would like to make some cash while learning. It’s a positive trade-off. Fun and profit.

I haven’t learned a new language in a few years. My learning process started with a basic overview of the language. Then I decided to do something different. I‘ve realized I learn better by doing and constant feedback. Being frustrated and working through a problem brings me some kind of joy.

And, this is how I started.

https://www.freecodecamp.org – I spent some time here learning the basics again. I’ve worked through some courses before. Time flew by. I recommend as a starting place if you’re new to code.

https://www.nakedcapitalism.com – I loved to read through the links on this site. They wrote things worth reading. Take your time here. I don’t agree with everything on the site. But will you ever? No. Go read, take a look and come back.

https://pluralistic.net – His writing inspired me to start this blog again. I’ve read a lot of his work. Highly recommend. Do not miss out on his work. Enough said.

Open Letter To My Ideal Clients

I know you, I am you.

You started your business because you knew it was what you wanted to do. You are an overachiever and get things done. When there is a problem, you attack it with everything you have. Pulling resources together, gathering people to help, and spending nights and weekends thinking. Your love for your business surpasses your love for most other things.

And it is all LOVE. You grew up knowing you wanted to do something special. Now, you are doing it and you need help with a specific problem, your website. You have one but it doesn’t wow you. It’s there but not a force in your business. You have a vision that you want for your site and need someone to make it a reality. You don’t know the details of creating a website or care about what it takes to get it done. You want it to look a certain way and to make your customer feel a special connection when they land on your website.

That’s where I come in. I handle the hard parts — the technical details, the design, the flow. You give me the vision, and I run with it. I LOVE this part — taking your problem and creating something spectacular! You sit back and focus on your business while I make your website stand out. I work on each project as if it were my own, and in some ways it is. I will not put my name on a website I don’t love. And that’s why it costs so much. I’m going to take my time. I’m going to get it right. I’m going to hire the best people to help me make your website amazing.

Yes, there is homework for you to do. Yes, I need certain things from you on specific dates and I’m the boss you don’t want to disappoint. BUT and this is a big one. If you let me riff and be creative, you will LOVE what I create for you. And here’s the best part, you will see the vision and approve it before we write a line of code.

The design section is where we agree on what we want. It’s the place where we hash out color schemes and flows and you tell me your vision. Here is the section, up front, where you have input and control. After this section, you have no work to do. After this section, you hand over the reins to my team. We will see the project to completion and surprise you.

If this sounds interesting. If you are thinking, YES let’s work together. Then reach out. Set up an appointment by clicking the button Let’s Get Started. It costs you nothing to have a conversation. Let’s talk!
